ReplyDeleteI am thankful to Cathy Anderson for having shared on Twitter this video of yours. (Too bad it can be shared or re-embedded anywhere else. That would be a good step in the direction of what you are advocating.)
I believe your vision has valid points and you I would encourage you to point out the existing projects that are already moving in this direction as to provide models and examples that people can identify with.
I also would like to see an open education like the one you describe that is not compulsory and that allows the learners to choose their guides and topics.
Ultimately, academic institutions are there to perpetuate the industrial system of work and to keep a closed system to access work via certifications and exams. But as we move away from industrial work, corporations and more toward an information society, there will be huge opportunities to work and realize one's own mission, without selling out one's dreams to the education system.
As I see it, the driving force for this, must be the realization of parents and kids that THIS education, the one being provided now, serves very little of their future needs, and it may be altogether useless if not dangerous to their ability to survive and prosper in a knowledge-based society.
